A five star book on Intermediate microeconomics.

Dr. Banerjee has written a wonderful book on Intermediate microeconomics. He has made difficult topics easy to understand. The graphs in vivid colors stand out and explain the concepts very well. I also liked how certain terms and sentences are highlighted in yellow. I hope Dr. Banerjee writes a similar book on intermediate macroeconomics.

A compact but rich Intermediate text

There are many Intermediate Micro texts these days but with a few exceptions (Frank, Nechyba) they tend to be no-frills products. They do their job competently and the authors are lead experts, but they're not particularly good at making the contents exciting or inspiring, they don't 'come to life' (admittedly a hard task for such a theoretical area). Upon receiving Banerjee's recent text I was wondering whether it offered yet another layer of these typically dry contents. The text didn't take long in overcoming my initial reservations. I found it simply excellent. It covers in an exhaustive way all the main themes, whilst also adding niche topics (e.g. stochastic dominance) and new or forgotten theories and propositions. I found myself learning about devil's advocate positions I had never heard of or finding answers to questions I had long tried to find. Few texts have this ability to present exciting new material at the turn of every page. What is more, these theories are presented in a succinct, approachable and clean way (great care has gone into the graphs). The connection between graphs and text is very efficiently woven; the author has no tolerance for redundant words, which works to the reader's benefit. Key messages are quickly spotted and digested, and it's not long before the reader is free to explore further territory. The book also has a fairly compact format (realtive to most Intermdiate texts) , and it comes at a fraction of its competitors' price, an important consideration for my students.

Welcome addition to a crowded field - Rigorous without being intimitading and does justice to the subject matter!

This textbook is rigorous without being inaccessible to undergraduate students. It does not short-change students with imprecise statements, and for the more discerning ones it opens the door to extensions. The subjects covered and the sequence is excellent. The exercises at the end of chapters go quite deep and allow for multilayered understanding. When so many textbooks resort to gimmicks and entertainment to attract audiences, it is refreshing to have a textbook which pays homage to the core of microeconomics and allows its beauty to be the selling point. The colored diagrams and highlighting help guide students well. It is a short book. It could arguably do with more worked out examples for the students and maybe a few references for extensions or applications or classic references for the more curious students. I would like to see the maximum theorem in the Mathematical Appendix and perhaps used as a tool in some chapters.
