    About the Author

    Carl A. Grant is the Hoefs-Bascom Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is also former President of the National Association for Multicultural Education.

    Christine E. Sleeter is Professor Emerita in the College of Professional Studies at California State University, Monterey Bay. She is also President of the National Association for Multicultural Education.

    Critical and Constructive

    Doing Multicultural Education breaks down the dominance of White American educational culture. This inclusive text examines the problems in US schools and their roots in the white supremacy that has a stranglehold on not only its political leadership but on American society as a whole. The textbook offers techniques for extending the ideally positive and rewarding instructional experience to incorporate students from all backgrounds, taking a comprehensive and constructivist stance and striving to mold teachers who can deal with an array of unexpected confrontations that may arise from their own prejudices and the stereotypes that have been conditioned into citizens of the United States.

    Terrible Book

    We live in a time when people are more concerned about equity than education. That is what this book is about. It is a book published by a liberal to advance his/their agenda of supposedly encouraging multiculturalism. In reality, it is actually a book about evening out everyone's education so they are all at the same level so the system is fair. Encouraging students to excel is forbidden because then there wouldn't be equity. Books like this are the reason public education is failing in the USA.
