Mitch Schneider is a fourth generation "mechanic/technician" and is a frequent speaker at major conventions and meetings of automotive industry trade organizations. Schneider is also an award-winning journalist and is a regular contributor and senior contributing editor for Motor Age magazine. He provides commentary on the evolving relationship between service dealers, jobbers, warehouse directors and manufacturers. Schneider has also appeared on the TNN cable show "Truckin USA" where he hosted the "Tech Tips" segment. In addition to operating the award-winning Schneider's Automotive for 22 years in Simi Valley,CA, he is also the president and founder of Schneider's Future-Tech, a service company specializing in conducting management seminars for automotive service dealers, jobbers, and warehouse distribution companies, and manufacturers. OK but feminist-pandering

Although I've just read the first chapter, the author's use of the uber-feminist "her" as the gender comprehensive is jarring. Politics has no place in a book like this, and using "her" as the gender comprehensive just doesn't make any sense (especially since it can be construed as sexist!).

Has some good ideas but not perfect

I was a bit disappointed with the lack of plans that would suit our needs. I want a more country styled house with a corner kitchen, mudroom, pantry of some sort, a main floor bedroom and a second room on the main floor that could serve as a guest bedroom/den. There are a few plans that suit my criteria but not many. We actually did find a plan in here that we may rework to suit our needs so I think the cost of the book was worth it.

The other drawback to the book was the lack of detailed measurements in most of the plans. They give you a general space of most large rooms but will leave out the details in the foyers, closets, baths etc. Our house needs to be wheelchair friendly so these numbers are important. Yes, you can get a general idea but it is a time issue to figure out the scale for each house.

The "extras" in the book I find rather useless. They tell you very general information regarding flooring, tile, bathrooms, etc. But none of the information is specific. For example in the bathroom section they say "Don't rule out anything that may seem unattainable; there's technology out there that will astound you . . ." All of this is fluff. The book would have been better without it in my opinion.

All in all not a bad book. It just could be better.

Same as the others

This book had great ideas and things to think about when building home which i really like. There are variety of home plans divided into sq footage. The cons: I purchased another book by the same publisher (I was warned in another review post) and there were many similarities. If you are purchasing any home plan book i recommend using this as only a guide for building exactly what you want. I did find my home plan in this book but we are doing quite a few modifications to make it work for us. I'm sure that this goes against the copy right but after all the changes its really not the same house.

Kind of Disappointing

I feel like I saw more variety on betterhomesandgardens.com, a lot of plans are repeated 2 or even 2 times, with just different looking exteriors. I mean it was an inexpensive book, so hey why not at least look at some more pictures before deciding on something, but if you're seriously looking for floorplan ideas this is kind of a let down. I also ordered a free catalog from [...] and got way more ideas that I liked from that, and it was free!
